At the Prescott-Nevada County Library Thursday morning a coffee was held by the Fairhills Extension Homemakers Club.
Starting at 9:30 a.m., an assortment of delightful brunch items was served, including a hashbrown casserole, croissant chicken salad sandwiches, brownies, cookies, cheese dip and fruit plate.
Mayor Terry Oliver of Prescott and County Judge Mike Otwell both issued proclamations that make May 2025 Arkansas Extension Homemakers Month.
President of the FEH Judy Duke said the organization gets its name from being the last surviving extension homemakers club in Nevada County after the others gradually folded. Fairhills members participate in parades, canning competitions at the county and state fairs, the Get Real program at the county’s schools. Most recently, the club has contributed a beautiful quilt block toward a state quilt that will have blocks for each of the state’s 75 counties.
Duke said the activities of the club during the summer will be several. “We have a project at the extension homemakers club building at the Fairgrounds that we're going to work on this summer. We're going to freshen it up. We hope to have some other classes this summer. We hadn't quite decided on what they might be. They might be the diamond art. I think maybe we're working on a canning program with Extension office. In June is our state meeting we'll be attending that.”
The coffee Thursday morning proved a big draw within just a few minutes of opening. The club regularly meets the third Thursday of each month at 2:00 pm at the Nevada County Extension Office, at 877 E Main St in Prescott.
