Flores entertains the crowd at KHMA's Big Sounds Downtown

The first in the free, outdoor summer concert series known as Big Sounds Downtown took place at the Hub in Pavilion Park in downtown Hope this evening with Jacob Flores as the headliner. Some might recognize Flores from when he played at Amigo Juan on occasion back in 2014-2015 or when he performed at a few of the local schools. Others might know him from when he won the 2013 Henderson Idol contest, from the preliminary rounds of The Voice and American Idol, or from his "Flores Friday" segments on THV 11's The Vine Morning Show. But everyone in attendance at this concert tonight will definitely remember Jacob Flores and his unique musical stylings while performing both his own original songs and classic cover songs that he delivered with a twist.

Flores told the crowd he was glad to be back in Hope and was excited to perform tonight. He also shared that they could catch him again tomorrow morning during his segment on The Vine Morning Show where he would be "fresh off the concert of the summer," his reference to Big Sounds Downtown. He then charmed the crowd with his performances of classics like "Hotel California" and "Fever," as well as originals of his own like "Extra" (see video clip above). Some of his songs had a bit of mariachi included, the genre of music he said he learned to perform with his dad in his youth, providing an interesting twist for concert-goers. Most songs were comprised of musical riffs that demonstrated an undeniable mastery of his acoustic guitar. All of his song choices, though, displayed his singular style of expression and striking voice, verifying for guests why he was chosen to kick off this summer concert series.

If this is the kind of exceptional entertainment that participants have to look forward to in this concert series, then Big Sounds Downtown, brought by KHMA (Klipsch Heritage Museum Association), has an exciting summer in store for local residents.

The next Big Sounds Downtown will take place on July 6th (7-9pm) at the Hub in Pavilion Park in downtown Hope and feature the Dusty Rose Band.
