FAYETTEVILLE -- A pair of Razorbacks are headed to the transfer portal that opened on Monday.
Quarterback Jacolby Criswell, former standout at Morrilton, and running back Isaiah Augustave are leaving the Razorbacks. Criswell will have one year of eligibility remaining while Augustave has three.
In his only season at Arkansas after transferring in from North Carolina, Criswell completed 17 of 27 passes for 143 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed 23 times for 44 yards.
Augustave, as a true freshman in 2023, rushed 35 times for 202 yards and one touchdown. He also caught three passes for seven yards.
Boise State transfer Taylen Green is the starting quarterback. Criswell was competing with Malachi Singleton and true freshman KJ Jackson for the back-up job. Sam Pittman said Saturday that battle would continue into the fall.
"It is," Pittman said. "It is. As a matter of fact it was a very difficult decision even who to run out there today because I think you guys … Now the beauty of it when I’m asking you questions and I know that you guys have been at every practice and when you ask me a question, to me it gives you a chance to be more educated on your questions as well. And you know when I give you an answer that I’m telling you what I see and most of the time it’s what we agree on.
"With the No. 2 quarterback position it could, in my opinion, it could be any of the three that are running two. Bobby (Petrino) played all three of those second-team guys in the first half. But I think it’s wide open there. Obviously Taylen Green is our quarterback. But after that I think it’s a wide open race. I’m not saying any of them can’t go get Taylen. I’m not saying that. I believe he’ll work hard to keep his position. But between the four of them, I think we still have to wait and see on two, three and four."
