Funday at Curry's Community Outreach in Prescott Displays Community Pride
  • Clear, spring weather and the sound of children's laughter were just a few of the heartfelt impressions which had local citizens enjoying the Spring Break Funday presented by Curry's Community Outreach Ministry in Prescott today. Happy children played games, took turns in the bounce house, and feasted on hot dogs and snacks, while also having the opportunity to spend time with some very special guests. Members of the Prescott Police Department (PPD) attended the community event to show their support.

Pastor Ivory Curry said the the purpose of Funday is to give local children a positive, community event to start off their break. "It's the first day of spring break and children need something fun and positive to participate in," Curry said. "This also allows them to see what our community can do when they work together and and do things to uplift each other."

At the start of the event, Curry went LIVE on Facebook to share the fun with others and extend an invitation to Funday. He also commended the PPD for their work with a recent house fire in the area, and thanked them for their support in the day's event. "We are thankful for the Prescott Police Department," Curry said. "They are here to help us, to share and have a relationship with the children. We want to thank our police force for coming down and for their community service today."

Chief Ann Jordan said that the officers enjoy attending events such as these. "It's good to for us to be here and communicate with our younger people in a positive way," Jordan said. "We want them to know we are here for them also." The kiddos enjoyed their time with local law enforcement, too, and many couldn't resist giving a hug to the men and women in uniform.

Curry also shared a story about how the community of Prescott came together in 2017 when his daughter lost her home in a fire. He said that outpouring of love and support, as well as the many who assist with children's events like Funday, is what the Prescott community is all about.

That sentiment was evident today as participants enjoyed the food and fellowship together at the corner of Greenlawn and Main. Children danced around to happy tunes, and even a few officers joined in the fun, as well. As Curry stood watching the various citizens from all walks of life visit and laugh with each other while they all showed support for this family-friendly Funday, he said with reverence, "This is the real Prescott."
