FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas’ Gabe Gaeckle and Colin Fisher have been named Freshman All-Americans by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
Gaeckle earned first-team recognition as a relief pitcher from the NCBWA, while Fisher garnered second-team praise as a starting pitcher from the organization. The Razorback duo is the 27th and 28th Freshman All-Americans in program history and the first since fellow pitchers Hagen Smith and Brady Tygart earned Freshman All-America honors in 2022.
Gaeckle emerged as the Hogs’ most dependable bullpen arm during the 2024 campaign, becoming the fifth Arkansas freshman pitcher since 2003, Dave Van Horn’s first year as head coach, to record five or more saves in a season. The right-hander from Aptos, Calif., who was named to the Freshman All-SEC Team, went 3-3 and carded a team-leading seven saves, including six multi-inning saves, with a 2.32 ERA and 57 strikeouts in 42.2 innings over 22 relief outings.
Fisher, meanwhile, established himself as the Razorbacks’ No. 4 starter before suffering a season-ending injury. The Noble, Okla., native, who was named SEC Freshman of the Week once during the year, turned in a promising rookie campaign, finishing 6-1 with a 2.67 ERA and 27 strikeouts in 27.0 innings over 10 appearances, including seven starts.
Arkansas and Duke were the only teams with multiple players named Freshman All-Americans by the NCBWA.
