A Garland City man is jailed as a suspect in the homicide off a Stamps woman who was discovered dead in her home Sunday.
According to the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office, a call came in at 11:27 p.m. on Sunday, January 12 requesting a welfare check at 310 Calvin St. in Stamps, AR. Stamps Police Chief Jeff Black was contacted and responded to the residence. Chief Black made entry into the house and found 55-year-old Deborah Barton dead inside. Evidence on the scene led law enforcement to believe Barton was the victim of homicide.
Arkansas State Police Investigators were called in to assist. During the investigation, Jonathan Tanner of Garland City was identified as a person of interest and placed under arrest, though, according to the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office, a motive has not been established yet.
Mrs. Barton’s body was sent to the Arkansas Crime Lab in Little Rock for an autopsy.
The investigation is ongoing, and we will update as more information is made available.
