Rotary president, Bren Yocom began the program with the pledge of allegiance along with a word of prayer from Steve Lance.
After the meal had been blessed attendees made their way to fill their plates with steak and chicken bites, twice baked potatoes, green beans and bread served along side salad and cheesecake. (Catered by Juan’s)
Yocom then took to the podium again saying, “Each year, the Hope Rotary Club honors the officer of the year from Arkansas Game and Fish, the Arkansas State Police, Hempstead County Sheriffs Office, and the Hope Police Department. I would like to invite Sheriff James Singleton to the podium to present the Hempstead county officer of the year award.”
Sheriff Singleton said a few words honoring Rotary Hempstead County Deputy of the Year, Lupe Becerra. “Becerra is a hard worker. She started in the jail and has been out on patrol about two years now. She really bridged the gap with our Hispanic population by helping us better understand their needs. We are very proud to have her.”
Lieutenant ASP Jamie Gravier introduced the Rotary Arkansas State Trooper of the Year and spoke highly of Arkansas State Trooper, Trevor Dew.
Gravier talked of some of his accomplishments and his accommodation’s.
Dew has been with the force for six years and through his career has excelled to protect and serve his area with the utmost care. In one instance, Dew saved the lives of many by stopping a high speed chase.
Both Singleton & Gravier expressed gratitude for Southwest Arkansas law enforcement divisions working together to keep our communities protected.
Rotary Game & Fish Officer, Cody Standifer. was not present but announced.
The Hope Police Department held their reception this evening as well, so the recipient of that award was not announced and will be presented at another time.
Yocom ended the program with appreciation to all law enforcement for their diligence in keeping our communities safe.
