Give Clothes New Life at HPS Pantries

HOPE – Yeah, the socks simply weren’t your style; and, don’t get started about the shirt. But, Aunt Martha was thinking about you at Christmas, nice of her; and, you can still make those socks and that shirt count for someone… donate them to one of the five Hope Public Schools needs pantries.

There are 167 students in the Hope district who are considered “homeless” by the Arkansas Department of Education, and others who, for whatever reason, don’t have sufficiently suitable clothes. All five of the HPS campus needs pantries will accept donations of clothing.

Clinton Primary School

At Clinton Primary, there is always a need for clothing, according to CPS Parenting Center Director Gina Karber.

“Shoes, new or gently used girls and boys, sizes child 5 to adult 10, and socks, new in the package, boys and girls, child sizes 4, 5 and adult 9 and 10,” Karber said.

Undergarments new in the package are also a need, boys and girls, size 5-6 to adult medium, she said.

“Pants or jeans, new or gently used sizes 5, 6 to 14,16 for boys and girls,” Karber said. “There is an extreme need for the children’s sizes.”

Adult sizes 0-12 for girls and small-medium for boys, as well as shirts sizes 6-14 for boys and girls, and small-medium adult sizes for boys and girls, are also needed, she said.

The CPS pantry will also accept donations of food items, including individual serving size cereals, granola bars, crackers, Ramen noodles, soup, spaghetti or ravioli, Vienna sausage, tuna or chicken salad packets, pork and beans, fruit cups, juice boxes, shelf-stable half-pint milk, and toaster pastries.

Other needs include individual size toiletries such as shampoo, soap, hand lotion and deodorants, quart zippered plastic bags, plastic spoons, clothes hangers, plastic storage containers with lids for clothing or food organization and storage in the Parent Center.

“The food pantry/clothing closet at CPS is welcoming donations in order to serve our student needs,” Karber said. “We have regular requests for food and clothing items for our students and would welcome donations.”

Contact the main office at CPS at 870-722-2723 during regular school hours to make donations.

Beryl Henry Elementary School

BHE Counselor Christi Sullivan reminds patrons that BHE is a uniform dress campus.

“Uniform shirts in red or blue, sizes 12, 14, and 16, are needed,” Sullivan said.

Food items needed include Ramen noodles, Vienna sausage, peanut butter, fruit cups and microwavable individual serving macaroni and cheese and ravioli.

Sullivan said donations may be made at the BHE main office during school hours.

Yerger Middle School

YMS Parent/Family Engagement Coordinator Hosea Born said his campus food pantry is stocked at the moment.

“Clothing is needed,” Born said. “We need small, medium and large shirts; and a variety of pant sizes for boys and girls.”

Donations may be delivered to the YMS main office during school hours, he said.

Hope Academy of Public Service

Needs on the HAPS campus typically reflect similar requirements as other campuses, including food items such as Ramen noodles, Vienna sausage, peanut butter, fruit cups and microwavable individual serving macaroni and cheese and ravioli. Donated clothing should reflect sizes typical for grades 5-8. Donations may be made through the HAPS main office during school hours. Contact Eddrick Lard for additional information.

Hope High School

“Our pantry on this campus was depleted over the Christmas break by giving to needy students,” HHS Parental Engagement Coordinator Kelly Muldrew said.

Clothing and food items are needed, Muldrew said.

“We take all size clothing and shoes, as some of our students have small children themselves,” she said.

Nonperishable single serving food items such as cereals, granola bars, crackers, Ramen noodles, soup, spaghetti or ravioli, Vienna sausage, tuna or chicken salad packets, pork and beans, fruit cups, juice boxes, and toaster pastries are all needed.

Donations may be delivered to the HHS main office during school hours, she said.
