Governor declares National Day of Prayer today

PRESS RELEASE

WHEREAS:  Public prayer is a long-standing and significant tradition of American history. Since the first gatherings of our Founding Fathers, elected officials in the United States have set aside moments of prayer to seek God’s wisdom in their decision-making;

WHEREAS:  In 1952, Congress and President Truman established The National Day of Prayer as an annual observance in the United States. It now falls on the first Thursday in May of every year;

WHEREAS:  This year, the National Day of Prayer will be observed in our state and across America on Thursday, May 4, with the theme “Pray Fervently in Righteousness and Avail Much,” based on the verse in James 5:16, “The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.”; and

WHEREAS:  Every first Thursday of May on the National Day of Prayer, we express our faith and exercise our freedom by uniting in prayer for our nation and its leaders, holding fast to the promises of our Lord and knowing that He answers the faith-filled prayers of His people.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, SARAH HUCKABEE SANDERS, acting under the authority vested in me as Governor of the State of Arkansas, do hereby proclaim May 4th, 2023, as

“NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER IN ARKANSAS”
