The second concert of Summer Sounds Downtown was a performance Thursday night by Hazy Jayne, a four-piece rock covers band fronted by vocalist and guitarist Lee Brooks.
At 6:30 p.m. in Hope’s The Hub, Brooks and his ensemble of Texarkanans launched into “Can’t Get Enough of Your Love,” and played about 20 tunes by luminaries from The Beatles to Tom Petty to Joe Walsh to Bryan Adams. Brooks strings his high tenor across these heavy songs in a way that defies the laws of physics and plays utterly original solos in styles from bluesy to industrial.
The all-ages crowd was impressive and stayed in their seats the entire 90 minutes plus, taking advantage of the shaved ice and bubble tree truck Sweet Escape. (My choice was lemonade with strawberry.) These concerts are sponsored by Hope Parks and Tourism as well as the Klipsch Museum of Audio History.
Hazy Jayne is comprised of Brooks, Paul Felder on keys, Rick Williams on bass and Brad Stewart on drums.
The next performer in the series of Thursday evening shows will be Trey Johnson, who will be coming to The Hub July 23rd.
