HCSO Warns of Satellite Scams

On Tuesday December 1st 2020 approximately 4:30 PM a Hempstead County Citizen reported that sometime last night November 30, 2020 his wife received a phone call from an unknown number. A female on the phone advised she was with a satellite company who asked his wife to turn the receiver off to the satellite in order for repairs to be made.

While his wife was speaking with the woman she asked for her husband's, address and last four of his social security number. The wife gave this information to the woman on the phone. The caller then requested his wife to give her a credit card number for a charge of $200.00 to be placed on the card in order to turn the receiver back on. The wife then hung the phone up and gave no further information.
