In 2018 the Hempstead County Bicentennial Committee raised funds to place markers in fifteen of the communities of Hempstead County that provide a brief history of their establishment and importance.
A marker for the community of Washington will be unveiled on Tuesday February 22 at 11am in front of the Old Washington Farmers Market Pavilion. Everyone is welcome. Washington, Arkansas was established as a community on the birthday of George Washington, the first president of the United States of America. The markers are funded by support from the Hempstead County Bicentennial Committee and the Hempstead County Historical Society.
