Hempstead County Relay for Life Committee Brings Exciting News During Community Coffee
The Hempstead County Relay for Life Committee hosted this week’s Community Coffee, sharing some very exciting news for the 2020 event.

Event Leader, Janet Choate, announced that this year’s Relay for Life will be held in Downtown Hope on April 24, 2020. The survivors will kick off the event at 6:00 pm, walking the first lap during opening ceremonies, luminaries will be held at the HUB at 9:00 pm and closing ceremonies will take place at 10:00pm. In addition to the many activities and good food for participants, the Relay for Life chairs will also be holding a street dance. Their aptly named theme “A Blast from the Past” coincides perfectly, as the street dance was very popular during the Watermelon Festival several years ago.

“It’s exciting,” said Choate, “We are very excited to be moving this event downtown and we would like to thank the City and all of the businesses in the downtown area for allowing us to be here. We are ready to raise money for cancer!"

Relay for Life is a yearly event held to raise money for the American Cancer Society. If you would like to form a team to raise money for ACS, you may contact Janet Choate at 870-703-5741 or email janet.choate@myfarmersbank. If you are interested in being a sponsor, you may contact Jessie Lewis at 870-826-1030 or email [email protected].
