HOPE – Sixteen new student representatives were formally inducted into the Hope High School Student Council in ceremonies at HHS on Dec. 8.

The new representatives were selected in school wide elections in November.

Newly-elected representatives include:

Freshmen – Jasmine Davis, Shy’Anna Farris, Tyrenda Hale, Cesar Marquez, Lynda Pacheco, Kennedy Phillips, Khalya Randle, Wynter Smith and Angelina Soto.

Sophomores – Katie Arroyo, Bry’Darrius Grissom and Tara Henry.

Juniors – Grayson Cole, Zy’Kell Farris, Emily Garcia and Stephanie Leija.

HHS Student Council Sponsor Sheila Hopson was delighted with the results.

HHS Principal Don Patton welcomed the students to a “journey of leadership.”

Patton asked family and friends in attendance to support the new representatives.

“Let these students do what they do best, and that is lead,” he said.

Hope Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Jonathan Crossley gave the new members their charge, following Patton’s journey theme.

“We all support what we help create,” Dr. Crossley said. “Take a look around you; these are people who are co-laborers with you in student council. You all are a collection of the decisions you make every day.”

He asked the students to recognize the need for belief in others as a key to leadership.

“With the privilege of leadership comes responsibility,” Crossley said. “People believe in you, now you believe in each other. Remember, if you want to go fast, you go alone; if you want to go far, you go together.”

Student Council Sponsor Sheila Hopson beamed as she addressed the full Student Council.

“I’m proud to say it is the best part of my job,” Hopson said. “These students make coming to school happy for me.”
