No. 2 Arkansas defeated Grambling 7-4 Tuesday night at Dickey-Stephens Park in North Little Rock.
Arkansas (27-3, 8-1) had defeated Grambling 14-3 on Tuesday, Feb. 25, in a 7-inning run rule at Baum-Walker Stadium in Fayetteville. Dave Van Horn played several reserves on Tuesday night.
The Razorbacks broke the game open in the bottom of the third when they scored four runs to break a 1-1 tie. Charles Davalan led off the third with a triple. Wehiwa Aloy followed with an RBI single. Kuhio Aloy was hit by a pitch. Brent Iredale then walked. Carson Boles singled to left field to plate the Aloy brothers. Iredale then scored on a wild pitch for a 5-1 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth, Davalan singled with one out and then Wehiwa Aloy walked. Kuhio Aloy singled to allow Davalan to score. Boles plated Wehiwa Aloy when he hit a fielder's choice.
The Hogs had taken a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Wehiwa Aloy singled with one out. Kuhio Aloy singled to move his brother to third base. Wehiwa Aloy tagged and scored on a sacrifice fly by Iredale.
Grambling scored a run in the top of the third to briefly tie the game at 1. They scored one more in the top of the fifth to pull within 5-2. They added two more in the top of the seventh to end the scoring.
Arkansas used four pitchers on the night. Starter Tate McGuire (1-3) got the win. He worked 4.0 innings. McGuire allowed one hit, a run, walked two and fanned four. Colin Fisher, Dylan Carter and Cole Gibler were the other three Arkansas pitchers. Gibler pitched 2.0 innings allowing no hits or runs. He walked one and struck out five to earn his first save of the season. They combined to allow six hits, walked four and struck out 11.
Grambling used five pitchers with starter Nick Robinson (0-4) taking the loss. Robinson went 2.0 innings. He allowed four hits, five runs, walked two, fanned a couple and hit one batter. The Grambling pitchers combined to allow seven runs, seven hits, walked six and struck out eight.
Arkansas will return to Baum-Walker Stadium to play host to Missouri (10-17, 0-9) this weekend for a three-game SEC series. Friday's game will begin at 7 p.m. and be televised on the SEC Network. Saturday's game starts at 6 p.m. and then Sunday at 2 p.m. Both those games can be streamed on the SEC Network+.
