Hogs Dominate UCA 93-56 After Second-Half Surge
By Otis Kirk

FAYETTEVILLE -- No. 21 Arkansas pulled away from the University of Central Arkansas in the second half to take a 93-56 win in Bud Walton Arena.

The Razorbacks only led 43-34 at intermission. But they got a huge game from Karter Knox who finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds. He didn't score at Michigan State Saturday night. Knox was pleased to bounce back against UCA.

"I wanted to get 20-20 tonight," Knox said. "If I had scored some of these points Saturday night we would have won that game easily."

John Calipari was pleased to see his Razorbacks get back on the winning track but with plenty of work still to do.

"Tomorrow's practice needs to be some stuff with the two bigs in," Calipari said. "I like that group. Both of them."

Malique Ewin had 10 points and 5 rebounds. Nick Pringle added 9 points and 8 boards.

"I've got to get Malique to play harder," Calipari said. "I've got to get Nick to recognize the spacing he's got to have. We've got to have three or four things we do with those two in there together."

Pringle is a transfer from South Carolina while Ewin came over from Florida State. Calipari also had a lot of praise for Knox.

"Karter can rebound," Calipari said. "That's who he should be. Yes he made shots, but he rebounded the ball for us."

UCA never led in the game. The Razorbacks stretched the lead to as much as 38 points, 93-55, with 1:04 remaining in the game. Arkansas shot 49% from the field while holding UCA to 28%. Arkansas also won the battle of the boards 49-35. Each team just had eight turnovers in the game.

"I told the team I wanted to hold UCA to 20 3-point attempts, they had 41," Calipari said. "We wanted to hold them five or six made ones. They made four in 41 attempts."

Darius Acuff Jr. topped the Razorbacks with 21 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Calipari wants more in assists.

"I want him to average 10 assists per game," Calipari said. "Pass the ball. If he gets 10 assists per game what will that do for him? He would be an elite guard. They will now say, 'this guy creates for his teammates. He can score and works hard on defense.' But if they think you're just trying to score too much you aren't an elite guard. You are a scoring guard."

Calipari's other talented freshman guard Meleek Thomas added 16 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists.

Camren Hunter topped UCA with 16 points and added 4 boards. Ty Robinson contributed 15 points and pulled down 5 rebounds.

Arkansas (2-1) will host Samford on Friday night at 7 p.m. and the game can be streamed on SEC Network+. UCA (1-2) will host the same Samford team Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
