LITTLE ROCK -- Arkansas defeated UAPB 70-0 at War Memorial Stadium on Thursday night scoring on all 10 offensive possessions.
The Hogs took control of the game early and never looked back in taking the easy win. Arkansas led 28-0 after one quarter and 49-0 at intermission. The offensive starters didn't play the second half. Quarterback Taylen Green in his one half of action completed 16 of 23 passes for 229 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing six times for 88 yards and another pair of scores.
Running back Ja'Quinden Jackson also got into the action on offense. He rushed eight times for 101 yards and two touchdowns while also catching a pair of passes for 20 yards and couple of touchdowns.
The Razorbacks had 687 yards of total offense to 130 for UAPB. The Hogs rushed for 408 and had 279 through the air. The Hogs were 9 of 9 on third down conversions. UAPB was held to seven yards rushing and passed for 123. Sam Pittman was pleased with the results.
"It's hard to shut somebody out," Pittman said. "I thought our defense did a great job with that. To score all 10 times you get the ball I guess has never been done before. I thought our running backs ran really hard. Ja'Quinden Jackson proved he can run over you or make you miss."
Arkansas won the toss and elected to receive. It took the Hogs eight plays to cover the 66 yards and Jackson going eight yards for his first touchdown as a Razorback. Kyle Ramsey added the PAT for a 7-0 lead with 12:08 remaining in the first quarter.
After a three-and-out on defense followed by a 19-yard punt the Hogs took over at the UAPB 40. Green raced in for a four-yard touchdown with 8:16 remaining in the first quarter for a 14-0 lead.
On Arkansas' third possession, Jackson raced 46 yards for a touchdown and 21-0 lead with 5:03 remaining in the first quarter. Rodney Hill, a former Florida State running back, scored his first touchdown as a Razorback on a four-yard run with 1:12 remaining in the opening period and 28-0 advantage. Pittman praised Jackson again.
"Again, I think he showed what he can do," Pittman said. "He can run over you. On our sideline, he lowered his head or lowered his shoulder and ran over a guy, then the next play made 2-3 in the hole miss. Like I said, he caught a really nice ball out of the backfield. I like the group of backs we have because they're all a little bit different, but JJ rushing 8 times for 101 yards was a good job for him and a good job by the offensive line, tight ends, wideouts blocking for him."
In the second quarter, Green found Tyrone Broden for a nine-yard touchdown with 12:06 left in first half. That gave the Razorbacks a 35-0 lead.
With 5:37 remaining in the first half, Green found tight end Ty Washington for a 23-yard touchdown pass and 42-0 advantage. The Hogs added an incredible 36-yard touchdown run by Green with nine seconds left in the first half. That allowed the Hogs to take a 49-0 lead into intermission.
"We've seen him at practice," Pittman said of Green. "We obviously felt he would play somewhat like he did. Probably the thing we didn't know is how well he would run. We knew he was fast, but we just hadn't seen it. The broken play going north was a hard play because he had to go all the way across. He had the speed and threw the ball well."
In the third quarter with Malachai Singleton working at quarterback the Hogs stayed in control of the game. Freshman Braylen Russell, from Benton, scored on a nine-yard touchdown with 6:13 left in the third period.
"Braylen Russell ran really hard," Pittman said. "Tyrell Reed ran really hard."
Singleton added a four-yard touchdown with 8:14 remaining in the game to put the Hogs up 63-0. Tyrell Reed scored on a four-yard touchdown with just 36 seconds remaining in the game. It completed a 10-play, 90-yard drive with freshman KJ Jackson as quarterback.
Singleton completed eight of 10 passes for 120 yards and rushed two times for a pair of yards and one touchdown. Jackson was four of four passing for 59 yards. He rushed one time for three yards.
"I was pleased with all the quarterbacks," Pittman said. "Malachi came in and I thought he did a wonderful job running the offense. Then KJ got the last series. I think we all saw what KJ is capable of doing."
Nico Davillier topped the team with five tackles, including two solo. The Hogs had four sacks and 10 tackles for loss.
Arkansas will practice Saturday, be off Friday and Sunday, then return to the fields on Monday. They face Oklahoma State on Saturday, Sept. 7, in Stillwater.Â
