Arkansas and point guard Boogie Fland rallied late to defeat Miami 76-73 in the SEC/ACC Challenge for their first road win of the season.

Miami held a 40-32 lead at intermission. The Hogs trailed the entire game until Fland hit a 3-pointer with 1:47 remaining for a 74-71 advantage. Fland had tied the game at 71 with two free throws previously. John Calipari talked about his team fighting back to get the win.

"We were able to scrimmage for two days for the first time this year," Calipari said. "We’ve got to play together but to do that you’ve got to scrimmage.  And (because of injuries) we couldn’t scrimmage.

"I’m telling all the fans that are listening, ‘I’m going to have fun this year. I don’t know where this is going to go. But I’m going to have fun. I love them (recites roster). I just want to love on these guys. We’re not going to play great every time out. But if we play like the second half tonight we’re going to be all right."

Miami took a 71-66 lead with 4:15 remaining in the game. Zvonimir Ivisic then hit a 3-pointer for Arkansas pulling to within two points with 3:59 left on the clock. Fland scored the final seven points for Arkansas. Nigel Pack did pull Miami to within 74-73 with 1:47 left in game. Pack finished with 22 points to lead all scorers in the game. But Fland put the final basket in to provide the win.

"But, Boogie, watching how we were playing in the first half, I just told him, I’m going to have to put the ball in your hands and you’re going to have to make plays, because he’s capable of doing it," Calipari said. "But I’m going to tell you who else played really well off of Boogie, was DJ (Wagner). So now, Boogie drove, threw it to him, and he goes and scores. Throws passes. The three in the corner. DJ played really well.

"Nelly (Davis) struggled in the first half. Oh my gosh, and then the second half, all those threes were rhythm threes. I’m telling everybody on my team, if you get a rhythm three, let the ball go. Shoot it. Don’t ball fake a rhythm three. If you have it, shoot it. But, you know, again, for us to… Did we lead for a minute?"

Fland finished with18 points, 4 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the Razorbacks. He talked about scoring the final seven points to secure the win.

"They were showing," Fland said. "They were hot hedging, so just swinging the ball, swinging it from one side to the other and then getting it back and make a play down the stretch. I mean, that's all I can do and just try to get the W for my team."

Wagner was next with 14 points, 2 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals. Davis added 12 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 steals. Ivisic contributed 11 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 blocks. Arkansas and Miami both shot 48% from the field. The Razorbacks also hit 48% (11-23) of its 3-point shots as well. Fland hit four, Davis and Ivisic three each and Wagner one trey.

The Hogs fell to Baylor and Illinois away from Bud Walton Arena after also falling behind early. Outscoring Miami 44-33 in the second half can this be a turning point for the season?

"I don’t know," Calipari said. "We’ll see. We’ve got tough games coming up, but I will tell you, at halftime, we’re not losing this game. We are not losing this game. We’ll figure out something, and if you don’t want to play that way, if you’re sad because you’re not playing well, then you‘re not in. Sit on the side and let us win the game. We had a bunch of guys that fought. In these kinds of games, you claw and give yourself a chance. We gave ourselves a chance, and Boogie made some plays down the stretch. We missed two free throws again. The game could have been over. Two. We missed 11 last game. I mean, you know, you want to win games, you better be making free throws."

Arkansas (6-2) also got 7 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists from Adou Thiero. Trevon Brazile added 6 points, 5 rebounds and 1 steal. In 12 minutes, Jonas Aidoo had 4 points, 2 rebounds and 1 steal. Billy Richmond and Karter Knox each chipped in a pair of points.

Miami fell to 3-5 on the season with the loss. The Razorbacks will return to Bud Walton Arena to host UTSA on Saturday at 1 p.m. The game can be streamed on SEC+.
