FAYETTEVILLE -- No. 2 Arkansas took an easy 13-3 run-rule win over UAPB on Tuesday night at Baum-Walker Stadium.
Arkansas (33-5) jumped out to a 10-3 lead after three innings and then added three more runs in the bottom of the eighth to complete the run rule over UAPB (8-27). First baseman Reese Robinett had a big day getting hitting three doubles including RBI to score Kendall Diggs to end the game. Dave Van Horn praised him after the game.
"Kid gets his first start and hits three doubles," Van Horn said. "That was good for him. Kuhio Aloy played in the outfield for the first time and had a little trouble with that ball in the corner. He hit the ball really well and got four hits."
Arkansas used four pitchers with starter Tate McGuire (2-2) getting the start. McGuire worked 3.0 innings. He allowed four hits, three runs and struck out five while walking none. Colin Fisher, Will McEntire and Steele Eaves all pitched out of the bullpen. Fisher and McEntire each worked a pair of innings. Fisher allowed two hits while McEntire didn't allow a hit and fanned three. Steele Eaves worked a perfect eighth.
"It was good to see some guys do different things," Van Horn said. "(Cam) Kozeal at second. The whole team played pretty well after two tough losses. We played decent and on to the weekend. Looking forward to (Texas) A&M coming in. They're super hot."
Kuhio Aloy did drive in four runs with his four hits. Brother Wehiwa Aloy added three hits and knocked in a pair with a two-run home run in the bottom of the second. Kozeal had two hits and plated three. He blasted a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth. Robinett finished off the run rule with his third double in the bottom of the eighth. He also knocked in a run with his first double in the bottom of the third. Zane Becker hit a two-run blast over the fence in the bottom of the third. One of Kuhio Aloy's four hits was a two-run home run in the bottom of the third.
The Razorbacks had 18 hits on the night while UAPB was limited to just six hits. The four Hogs pitchers did combine to strike out 10 UAPB hitters while only issuing one free pass. UAPB sent eight pitchers to the mound. Starter Chris Bedgood (0-3) took the loss. He only lasted 1.1 innings allowing six hits and half dozen runs. He walked two. In all, the UAPB pitchers combined to strike out three Razorbacks and walking the same number.
