FAYETTEVILLE -- Arkansas and Texas Tech will play in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl on Friday, Dec. 27, with a 6 p.m. kickoff.
Texas Tech (8-4) and Arkansas (6-6) only have one common opponent this season. Tech defeated Oklahoma State 56-48 on Saturday, Nov. 23. The Razorbacks lost to Oklahoma State 39-31 on Saturday, Sept. 7. Both games were played at Stillwater.
This will be the seventh appearance in the Liberty Bowl for Arkansas. The Razorbacks lost their first three appearances there and have since won three in a row. Sam Pittman took his 2022 team to the Liberty Bowl and captured a 55-53 three-overtime win over Kansas. The Hogs and Bret Bielema downed Kansas State 45-23 on Jan. 2, 2016. Bobby Petrino won his first bowl game with Arkansas at the Liberty downing East Carolina 20-17 in overtime on Jan. 2, 2010.
Texas Tech is led by quarterback Behren Morton. He completed 295 of 466 passes for 3,335 yards, 27 touchdowns and 8 interceptions. He was sacked 23 times. Running back Tahj Brooks gained 1,505 yards and 17 touchdowns on 286 carries. Josh Kelly is the leading wide receiver catching 89 passes for 1,023 yards and 5 touchdowns. Linebacker Jacob Rodriguez is the leader of the defense. He has 118 tackles, 73 solo, 5 sacks, 4 pass breakups, 1 interception, 3 forced fumbles and 2 recovered with one a touchdown.
Arkansas and Texas Tech are old opponents in the Southwest Conference. Arkansas leads the series 29-8. Texas Tech won the last matchup of the two teams when Patrick Mahomes led them to a 35-24 victory in Razorback Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2015.
Both teams will await to see how many players opt out of the game or enter the transfer portal. The game will be televised on ESPN from Memphis.Â
