FAYETTEVILLE -- Arkansas continues to add talent from the transfer portal with two more signings today bringing to eight thus far.
Georgia Tech offensive tackle Corey Robinson II, 6-5, 305, the No. 2 offensive tackle in portal per On3 signed. The Hogs also inked UCF center Caden Kitler, 6-3, 295. Both officially visited Arkansas earlier this week.
"For sure, I would love to come in and compete with these guys," Robinson said. "I definitely see an opportunity to grow here, for sure."
The visit where he got to watch practice helped seal the deal for the Hogs.
"Really, it was a really solid visit, but just explaining how they could help me become the best version of myself on the field from a football perspective, it's big for me," Robinson said. "Learning different techniques, seeing different techniques and tells and showing -- we were talking to Coach Pittman and he was saying what he sees in my game that he can improve, that really caught my attention."
Robinson chose the Hogs over Oklahoma and Texas Tech. Kitler chose the Hogs over Florida State, SMU, Michigan and Mississippi State.
"They run a lot of pin and pull stuff," Kitler said. "They actually highlight the center’s athletic ability so I think I would be really good in that role. At UCF we run a lot of inside zone so just highlighting what I can do and just kind of cutting loose on it."
He also talked about what else stood out about the Hogs.
"It’s like that good mix of city and country," Kitler said. "So I really like that I like how it’s quiet, but it can also get loud at times. There’s nothing else in Arkansas than other the Hogs so just that fan base and the games are always going to be loud so that’s pretty cool to me."
UAB wide receiver and punt returner Kam Shanks has chosen Arkansas. On Wednesday he was named first-team All-America punt returner.
Shanks, 5-8, 180, topped the nation in punt returns this season with 16 returns for 329 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also brought back one kickoff for 15 yards. He caught 62 passes for 656 yards and 6 touchdowns. Shanks rushed 8 times for 50 yards. Shanks is good friends with Arkansas quarterback KJ Jackson.
"It felt like home here and I really like," Shanks said. "Just through the prayer of God. I prayed to him to see how it was to go."
Shanks talked about his punt return experience and what he feels made him so good at it.
"I have been doing punt returns forever," Shanks said. "When I'm back there I'm relaxed. I feel like it's just another play."
Shanks was a first-team All-AAC punt returner and third-team All-AAC wide receiver. Arkansas defeated Shanks and UAB 37-27 on Saturday, Sept. 14, this season. In the game, Shanks caught a 15-yard touchdown pass from Jacob Zeno with 6:05 remaining in the first quarter for a 10-0 lead at that point. It was a pass with Shanks coming around on a reverse and Zeno hitting him. Shanks covered the 15 yards showing off his speed. In the game, he caught 5 passes for 31 yards and 1 touchdown.
Former Texas A&M tight end Jaden Platt used one of his official visits seeing what Arkansas has to offer and it showed him enough to get him to sign with the Razorbacks.
Platt, 6-5, 260, told Hogville why he chose the Razorbacks over Florida State and others.
“There’s so many reasons,” Platt said. “Coach (Morgan) Turner, Coach (Bobby) Petrino and those are a few. Then like I said hearing from Taylen (Green) and Andreas (Paaske) the team is something I want to be a part of. That’s a big thing. The school here takes care of its players. They have what is important to me.”
Platt has previous ties to both Turner and Petrino. Platt committed to Turner when he was at Stanford. He also played for Petrino at A&M in 2023. When Stanford made a coaching change that led Platt to choose A&M.
“It’s really cool,” Platt said. “Coach Turner recruited me at Stanford. Having meet up with him again is really special. I was committed to him before everything happened at Stanford. So there’s definitely a connection there.Â
“Coach Petrino man he’s an offensive genius. With the right players and right skills there’s no ends or limits with his offense. It’s really promising in that scope of things.”
