But tonight at 6:30 p.m. at Hope High’s Hammons Stadium, the band will put on a performance in the interest of tightening up its show. Band Director Chris Davis said he will be keeping an eye on how long it takes for the band to set up its equipment before its show. Three minutes and fifteen seconds is the target.
This means everyone who has not had a chance to see The Sound of Hope perform its Juno show in person gets one more chance to do so before the band goes to Little Rock Tuesday.
The Band Performer of the Week is Leejaylon Spencer, a bass drum player in the Juno show and a first-year high school student. “He's got some solos in there that he doesn't think of as solos, but they're actually solos. He's literally the guy that sets the tempo on tempo changes,” Davis said.
Spencer said what he likes most about being in band is just playing with the other students. He hopes to remain in band as he attends college.
On Tuesday morning, according to Hope Public Schools Communications Director George Henderson, the band will be leaving the Hope High campus at 9:00 a.m. At various times, the other schools in the district will be able to give the band a good send off as it rides through town on buses and leaves for Little Rock. Henderson also provided the schedule below as well as a map of the route:
