Hope Chamber Cuts the Ribbon for Black Sheep Plumbing
The Hope Hempstead County Chamber of Commerce celebrated the official ribbon cutting for Black Sheep Plumbing with a crowd of local supporters gathered at the business’s new location on West Avenue B.

Guests were welcomed with coffee, sodas, and designer cookies,  including a few creatively humorous designs that sparked plenty of laughs as attendees mingled and showed support for the new locally owned business.

City of Hope Director Mark Ross opened the ceremony by welcoming the owners and highlighting the personal connections that make the business especially meaningful to the community.

“On behalf of the City of Hope, I want to welcome Black Sheep Plumbing,” Ross said. “This one’s a little unique for me because I know both, well, I guess a fourth of the owners. I’ve known Jacob and his family for years, and it’s great to see local connections turn into new businesses.”

Ross also noted the revitalization of the area along West Avenue B and shared a lighthearted take on the company’s origins.

“When you combine a farmer and a band kid, you get Black Sheep Plumbing,” he joked. “Their slogan may not be official, but it fits,  “if it’s broke, they’ll fix it. And if they break it, they’ll still fix it.”

Black Sheep Plumbing officially began operations in November 2025 and is owned by Jacob Collums and Colton Rogers. The company offers residential and commercial plumbing services, including water line, sewer, and gas work, serving Hope and the surrounding areas.

Co-owner Colton Rogers shared the story behind the business name and its fast-moving start.

“This was kind of a whim one night,” Rogers said. “We were talking about retirement, and next thing you know, we decided to start a plumbing company. Five minutes later, we had a name, ‘Black Sheep Plumbing’ because we don’t always get along with everybody, and we don’t mind butting heads when needed.”

Rogers said the idea quickly turned into action.

“We had logos sent out within a couple hours and were at the bank the next day,” he said. “Now here we are, just trying to help people and make things easier around town.”

He added that customer service and flexibility are a priority for the business.

“We try to accommodate schedules, even after hours, and we’re not going to beat you up on price,” Rogers said. “If you need us, just let us know. We’ll help you out the best we can.”

Hope Hempstead County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Christy Burns praised the owners for investing locally and bringing new energy to the business community.

“Black Sheep Plumbing represents exactly what we love to see, local entrepreneurs who are willing to take a chance, work hard, and serve their community with heart and humor,” Burns said. “We’re proud to welcome them to Hope and excited to watch them grow.”

Black Sheep Plumbing is located at 2119 West Avenue B in Hope and can be reached through their Facebook page, where customers can message directly for scheduling and service information. The owners said, “responses are quick, and a full website is planned for the near future.”

The ceremony concluded as the ribbon was cut out front on the steps of the new business and was met with a round of applause from those in attendance.
