Hope City Board Meets to Discuss Roofing Project at City Hall

The Hope City Board of Directors met September 9 at noon for a special meeting to discuss the roofing bids for the roofing repair project for City Hall. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Steve Montgomery, followed by the pledge of allegiance as they moved on to discuss the item of business.

Bids for the project were opened on July 7, 2020 for replacement of roof/decking on City Hall. The only bid received during the bid period was from Lowry Roofing in the amount of $416,918. Lowry Roofing has since reworked their bid to $298,170. In this amount is an allowance for replacement decking of $500. All who have looked at the roof are sure that more decking than this will be required. It has been estimated that up to 60% or $18,000 might be required, which would be in addition to the base bid.

Catherine Cook, City Manager stated "we and the architect have reached out to other contractors to see if there is interest in this project and have had no local or regional interest. We also reached out to the Dallas contractors with no response. Given that the roof continues to deteriorate and we are going into another winter, it would seem to be a good idea to try and settle on a bid with the contractor that we do have interested in the job."

The board accepted the revised bid amount from Lowry Roofing and the meeting was adjourned.
