Hope City Hall Roof Work Continues

City Of Hope City Hall Roofing Bid
Hope City Hall Roof Work Continues

Mark Ross

For about the last five years, the City of Hope has been working on a project to replace the Italian tile roof of our City Hall that was built in 1926. The tile, which appears to be the original roof, had developed leaks as the decking had deteriorated and some tiles had been lost during wind, snow, and ice events over the years. The flat roof section was replaced in the early 1990s. The City of Hope, working with Jerry Hollensworth of Trull-Hollensworth Architects, developed plans to completely rework the tile portion of the roof, including decking replacement as necessary and gutter repair/replacement, as well as replacement of the flat section of the roof.

The job was bid out and bids opened on July 7, 2020.  One bid was received from Mid-Ark Roofing of Little Rock in the amount of $416,918.00. After working with the architect and contractor, the City Board accepted a negotiated bid of $298,170 on September 9, 2020.

Start date for the project was to be in October 2020. Additional cost would be involved if more decking needed to be replaced which is anticipated. In February the City Board approved a change order in the amount of $17,000 to add snow guards to the edges of the roof.  The project should be completed this month
