Hope Civitan Car Show at Watermelon Festival
The Hope Civitan Club will once again present a classic car show at the 47th annual Watermelon Festival. The car show will be open to the public for viewing beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday, August 12. Trophies will be given to first, second and third place winning entries in 18 categories, with four “Best of Show” trophies awarded for best paint, best engine, best car and best truck.
Classic car enthusiasts can register their cars at the pavilion in Fair Park, between the swimming pool and the ballpark, beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday. Car show entrants should use the back gate to enter the park. Winners will be announced at approximately 2 p.m. Registration for each vehicle to be displayed is $25. This year’s entries will be judged by impartial out-of-county judges.
Proceeds of the show benefit the Hope-Hempstead Chamber of Commerce and the Civitan Club’s local projects.
Hope Civitans have presented the Watermelon Festival classic car event since 2010, just a few months after the club was chartered. The show has, in past years, brought numbers ranging from approximately 50 to over 100 beautiful vehicles to Hope’s Fair Park.
The 18 vehicle categories range from pre-1950 to present-day cars and trucks, along with Corvettes from 1953-present, rat rods, kit cars and trucks, imports, and Mustangs from 1964-present. The first 50 registered entrants will receive a “goody” bag and dash plaque; and throughout the day, door prizes will be awarded to registered entrants.
The Hope Civitan Club invites everyone to attend this year’s Civitan Car Show, a great family event.
