The Hope Farmers’ Market just keeps growing, and we’re not talking about the vegetables. This morning came with the biggest turnout yet since the Farmers’ Market returned from the COVID19 shut-down last year. Returning vendors Salinas Farms, Heirloom Farms, Arnold Farms, Bright Farms and Young Sprouts showed with their fresh fruits and vegetables in addition to some new treats. Plus, there were four new vendors this morning with David Langston and his jellies, Cowpen Bottom Farms with fig trees, Carolyn's Kitchen with an assortment of baked goods, and Farm on the Hill with farm-raised beef. Of course, the Mint Man, a fan favorite, was on the scene with his mint plants and mint-themed goodies, and the beloved Aunt Fern was there with some new flavors of fried pies like sweet potato, strawberry, and coconut.
This week, the Hospitality Table was hosted by the Hempstead County Library. The library ladies had a good spread which included donut holes, coffee, and Hempstead County library mementos. Library Assistant Director Jamie Formby shared with SWARK.Today the excitement of her co-workers to be at the Hope Farmers’ Market this week. Formby said, “We really enjoy it. We love coming out and doing things with the community and visiting with people.”
Deanna Gilbert, who organizes and leads the Farmers’ Market vendors each week, was pleased with today's turnout and says more events are on the upcoming schedule. “We are so excited,” said Gilbert. “We hope to grow more each week and bring as much as possible to this community while also taking precautions to keep everyone safe. The June 22 Farmers’ Market will have the Johnson & Johnson free COVID19 vaccination booth, and on July 1 we will have an Independence Day Celebration from 4pm to 7pm with hot dogs, face painting, kids’ activities, and the vendors with their fresh, locally-grown produce.”
From the start of this season, this year was described as one of growing and rebuilding. Vendors, market representatives, and members of the community have all contributed to this goal and each week the growth is evident as more and more citizens arrive to shop the fresh, local produce, homemade products, baked goods, and more. Witnessing this morning’s huge turnout so early in the season has everyone at Hope Farmers’ Market excited to see what is yet to come!
