Hope for PAWS Hosts Hope Hempstead County Community Coffee
Hope for PAWS hosted the Hope Hempstead County Chamber of Commerce Community Coffee this morning at the Chamber offices, welcoming community members for a morning of fellowship, refreshments, and conversation centered around a shared passion for the welfare of animals.

Guests enjoyed an array of refreshments while learning more about the mission of Hope for PAWS and the organization’s impact on animal well-being in Hope over the past decade.

Executive Director of the Hope Hempstead County Chamber of Commerce Christy Burns thanked Hope for PAWS for hosting and highlighted the importance of community involvement. “Community Coffee events like this give our members the opportunity to connect with local organizations that are truly making a difference,” Burns said. “Hope for PAWS has played a vital role in improving the lives of animals in our community, and we appreciate their continued dedication.”

Hope for PAWS is a nonprofit organization founded ten years ago with the goal of addressing animal control challenges in Hope. Vice President Kelly Bass, one of the organization’s founders, shared that prior to the group’s formation, the local animal shelter faced overwhelming odds.

At the time, the shelter was considered a high-kill facility, with nearly 95 to 98 percent of animals euthanized and adoptions all but nonexistent. They knew something had to change, and their mission became advocating for these animals and giving them a chance to live.

Bass helped establish Hope for PAWS while working with Rainbow of Challenges, alongside fellow founder and current President Carol Robinson. Together, they worked to create a stronger support system for animals in the community through advocacy, rescue partnerships, and increased awareness.

During the organization’s monthly meeting yesterday, Bass announced her decision to step down from her role as Vice President, citing an increased workload that no longer allows her to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. Her motion was approved by the board, and Bass was unanimously voted into the role of Treasurer. Following that decision, Lisa Chambless was unanimously nominated, seconded, and voted in as the new Vice President of Hope for PAWS.

Hope for PAWS continues its mission to advocate for animals and improve outcomes for those in need throughout the Hope community.
