City officials will provide an information session on the plan, which would build a new main fire department headquarters, a new aquatic and recreation center and make major upgrades to both parks, including refurbishing the soccer complex and adding a splash pad at Northside Park among other things.Â
Whether these improvements are made depends on majority yes votes on the three ballot items which will appear on the November 5th General Election ballot.Â
Tonight’s meeting will feature a short video explaining the Hope for the Future plan and the grounds for supporting it. Then a question and answer period will follow.Â
The three ballot items on the November 5th ballot are as follows, 1) a 7/8 cent tax for the construction of a new fire station, 2) a 7/8 cent tax for the approval of a new recreation facility and a wide array of park and recreation improvements and 3) a 1/8 cent parks and recreation operating expense support tax. Â
The sales tax levied is limited to 1 cent per dollar. The fire station and recreation facility will share the 7/8 cent sales tax until it sunsets at the time both are paid off. The 1/8 cent tax would only be levied if the recreation center and parks improvement items are approved.Â
