Hope- On Wednesday night the cross country and soccer student-athletes from Hope High School were honored at their part of the Athletic Banquet. A separate banquet was necessary as both the Lady Cat and Bobcat Soccer teams were competing at the State Tournament last weekend in Little Rock.
Before the Cross Country and Soccer awards were given out, Coach Kelly Muldrew was there to confer awards on two of her basketball players who were also on the soccer team. Mariana Turcios and Saniyah Walker each accepted awards for their skills and leadership on the basketball court.
Coach Marshall and Coach Dominguez, the Cross Country and Soccer coaches deserve a lot of credit for the hard work and preparation they put in daily with the athletes. The Cross Country team enjoyed a successful season as many athletes were honored for All-Conference, including Brian Jimenez, Reynaldo Retana, Adrian Yepez, Kevin Lozano, Brianna Maclaughlin, Madelyne Maclaughlin, and Brency Cabriales, who was honorable mention for All- Conference. Scholastic awards went to Reyes Hernandez, Jasmin Rodriguez, and Jacquelin Jimenez.
Both Hope Soccer teams had successful seasons, as Coach Marshall said both teams had more wins this season than any other season during his 11 years at Hope and both teams earned spots in the State Tournament this past year.
Freshman Madelyne Maclaughlin led the Lady Cats in goals this season, and Sophmore Aniell Felipe led the Bobcats with 15 goals and 12 assits. Both goalies for Hope were awarded All-Conference honors, Gilberto Dominguez and Angelica Soto. Gilberto Dominguez also earned an All-State award.
Daniel Marruffo, Irvin Castrojon, Aniell Felipe, Manuel Retana, Pedro Cantu, Alex Brand, Brian Jimenez, Reyes Hernandez, Juan Ortiz, Josh Ramos, Adrian Yepez, and Marco Borboa each received awards. Kelston Mask was awarded an honorable mention in his only season to play soccer. Roy Torres also received an award.
All-State Awards for the Bobcats Soccer Team were presented to Gilberto Dominguez, Aniell Felipe, and Manuel Retana. Mariana Turcios, Jasmin Rodriguez, Jacquelin Jimenez, Madelyne Maclaughlin, Saniyah Walker, Angelica Soto, Britzi Marrufo, and Brency Cabriales each received All-Conference awards. All-State award recipients for the Lady Cats were Jasmin Rodriguez and Mariana Turcios.
Senior Manuel Retana was also awarded a spot in the Arkansas State All-Star Game held in Conway on June 23rd. Senior Jasmin Rodriguez also received votes to the All-Star Game and is the first alternate. These were great honors for both Retana and Rodriguez as only a handful of athletes from each conference are considered. Because of these great seasons for Cross Country and Soccer, very exciting things are coming for these groups in the upcoming seasons.
