The Hope-Hempstead County Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce the return of Junior Watermelon Idol for its second year as part of the 50th Annual Hope Watermelon Festival – Golden Jubilee Celebration. This exciting event is open to young vocalists ages 5–15 and will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. on the Farmers Bank & Trust Stage.
Talented youth from across the region will compete for trophies and cash prizes awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. In addition, the overall winner will have the opportunity to perform later that evening on the big stage at Legion Field prior to the concert featuring Gretchen Wilson and opening act Mae Estes. (Please note: a concert ticket is required to attend the evening performance.)
Official Rules
Limited to 10 entries total. First come, first served.
Performances are limited to four minutes per act.
Vocalists only.
Previous overall winners are not eligible to compete.
There are no separate categories for age groups or individual/group acts.
Unsportsmanlike conduct, including arguing with or harassing judges, will not be tolerated.
Contestants who are not present when called to perform will be disqualified.
Contestants must provide their own soundtracks.
The judges' decisions are final.
