Hope Lions' 75th anniversary Christmas Auction is underway tonight

Hope Lions Club Hope Lions Christmas Auction
Hope Lions' 75th anniversary Christmas Auction is underway tonight
At the Fair Park Coliseum, another harbinger of the holidays began tonight at 6:00 p.m. with prayer, the singing of the national anthem and God Bless America by Hope's mayor Don Still and a presentation of colors. By 6:20, the first item, a copy of Joshua Williams Hope from the Images of America series, was up for bid.

The Christmas auction will span three evenings including tonight, each night starting at 6:00 p.m. Thursday and Friday the bidding will continue until 10:00 p.m. with Saturday's bidding lasting until all the items are gone.

The proceeds raised from the auction of donated items and gift certificates will go toward a number of Lions Club causes, including that of providing treatment for diseases and disorders of the eyes, but the Lions also provide food packages after the auction to benefit local families with low household incomes.

The auction of items is not the only reason to attend, though. The Hope Evening Lions are serving homemade entrees from the south side of the coliseum, including Frito Pies, soups and delicious bowls of chicken and dumplings. Drinks and desserts are also available.

If you're thinking of bringing your kids, there's a kids' activities table to your right as you walk into the coliseum to keep your young ones occupied.

Among the items up for bid are a grill produced at UAHT, a recliner, a Razorbacks cornhole board, an old-fashioned pay phone, a tool set, car stereo speakers, a gift basket, wall decor and even mulch for your yard or garden, a water cooler, an adult bicycle and much more.

The auction will end Saturday night.
