Hope Lions make 105 deliveries of holiday grocery boxes Monday

Hope Lions make 105 deliveries of holiday grocery boxes Monday
After three days of its Christmas auction, which raised $35,593.50 plus another $2,000 pledged by Hope Auto at last Monday’s banquet, the Hope Lions Club put in several hours to put together boxes of holiday-time groceries and then deliver them from their base at Fair Park Coliseum Monday.

About 105 boxes were filled with everything from a baking hen to cake ingredients to frozen dressing to rolls as they rolled on dollies down a kind of conveyor line of Lions. After being lined up on two rows of tables, the boxers were carried to trailers, backs of trucks and trunks of cars to be delivered to 105 low-income households in the Hope and Hempstead County area.

These households had applied for the annual gifts by filling in forms obtained from the Hope-Hempstead County Chamber of Commerce headquarters on South Main and East Second as well as from the Caney Creek Estates offices.

Some deliveries were made to as far-flung places as Fulton, the eastern outskirts of Emmet and county roads in Hempstead County’s woodsy southeast.

By late afternoon most boxes were delivered.  See our photos below for what it looked like from the Coliseum.
