Thursday, February 17, 2022, Hope, AR, Klipsch Heritage Museum Association is excited to announce that the band LLC will headline their “Music in the Evening” event at the Klipsch Municipal Auditorium on Friday, March 11 from 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM. Joe Purvis, Hope native, is the featured vocalist with LLC.
When asked to describe the band, Joe shared the following, “LLC is made up of a group of older guys coming from different backgrounds who played with other bands in the past. Joe Purvis and Ray Scott played in the same band together for over 30 years and were joined some years ago in that band by Steve Giles, the keyboard player. When a gig was booked and one of the members of Joe and Ray’s band couldn’t perform, Steve recommended Steve Boone and Clayton Bowles with whom he played in a church band. The end result is that we wound up with a bunch of older guys that liked to get together and play the music that we grew up with and love. Other folks seemed to like them as well because we have played all over the State of Arkansas for the past several years and indeed were the last band to play at the late great Cajun’s Wharf in Little Rock before it closed several years ago. Here are the members of the band.”
Lead guitar player, Dr. Steven Boone, Deputy Provost at UAMS. Dr. Boone is a native of Fort Smith and has been playing music for most of his life. He obtained a Ph.D. in Psychology at UA Fayetteville and was on the faculty of UCLA for a number of years before being called back to serve in his current position at the Med Center. While in California, he played with a number of bands and a number of great performers including Linda Ronstadt.
Bass guitar is Clayton Bowles, a native of west Texas who grew up with and played with Larry Gatlin and not only his brothers, but his sister whom Clayton says is the most talented person in the whole family. Clayton also formally performed with the Dan Blocker Singers several years ago and in his spare time co-founded and ran Aristotle Computer Company until his retirement a few years ago.
On keyboard, Steve Giles, partner with Wright, Lindsey & Jennings LLP, is quite frankly the leading land use attorney in the State of Arkansas. Prior to returning to Arkansas several years ago, he practiced law in southern California and played with varying musical groups there. While growing up here in Arkansas, he played with former Stax recording band, Merging Traffic, which was popular in and around Little Rock, Arkansas for a number of years. It was subsequently voted the most promising new band in the Memphis area by disc jockeys there in the late 1960’s.
Rhythm guitar player, Steve Longinotti, a native of Hot Springs has been playing music for years with several church praise bands and is a most remarkable guitar player in his own right. In his spare time, Steve leads the Bowen Hefley Orthopedic Rehab Facility and stays quite busy.
On drums, is Ray Scott, former Director of Arkansas Department of Human Services, a native of Malvern who in addition to being a football star for the Malvern Leopards, cut his teeth playing drums in the house band at the Vapors in Hot Springs during the 1960’s. There he backed up such luminaries as Roy Clark, Margaret Whiting, and Tony Bennett. Ray was also part of Atlantic recording artists, The Right Track, and toured with Glenn Campbell’s sisters’ band, The Campbell Sisters.
On vocals is Joe Purvis, a native of Hope, a partner with the Little Rock firm of Wright, Lindsey & Jennings LLP. Joe played with Little Joe and the BK for over 40 years and that group performed throughout Arkansas, Mississippi, Florida, Texas and Louisiana. Joe still recalls the advice he received after performing publicly with the group for the first time, namely “Don’t quit your day job.” The LLC Band enjoys playing music and they certainly hope you enjoy their performance.
