Hope, Nevada School Districts, City of Prescott react to August 8 election results

Voting going on in Hope's Fair Park Community Center Tuesday afternoon.

With the results of the August 8th elections in the Hope Public School District, the Nevada School District and the City of Prescott now known, reactions are coming in from the respective leaders of those entities.

The victors of the evening's count were unquestionably the Nevada School District, whose voters approved a raise in the millage rate to help fund the district's facilities and staff, and the City of Prescott, whose voters approved a one-cent per dollar retail sales tax to address an electric bill debt.

Mayor Terry Oliver of Prescott said, "I would like to thank most everyone for the overwhelming vote of YES on the City of Prescott Sales Tax Election. I appreciate everyone who tried hard to get the facts to the public concerning this matter. Also, a BIG THANKS to the Sales Tax Committee for a job well done."

On the losing end of Tuesday's election was the Hope School District, whose spokesman David Henderson released a statement Tuesday night on the district's website:

"Even though the millage did not pass tonight, we are hopeful for a fantastic school year. We are truly stronger together.

The start of school is right around the corner and we have a $15 million magnet grant to expand opportunities for all of our kids. We have award-winning extracurricular programs on every campus. Our teachers are hopeful and positive about welcoming every single student into their classrooms and hallways. We welcome you to be volunteers in our schools and to join us in educating the future of Hope every single day."

At press time, we had not yet heard from Superintendent Roy McCoy of Nevada School District, but as we receive his response we will place it here.
