The special election in Hempstead County today was to determine if the millage charge for citizens with property living within the Hope School District would move up 12 mills from 34.7 to 46.7. Out of 1,127 citizens who voted, 308 voted for the mill increase and 819 voted against. The millage increase did not pass.
