Hope Ushers In the Holiday Season With Festive Parade, Tree Lighting, and Cookies With Santa
The spirit of Christmas filled the air in Hope tonight as families, friends, and neighbors gathered downtown to celebrate one of the community’s most cherished traditions. The annual Hope Christmas Parade brought vibrant color, twinkling lights, and joyful music to Main Street, with this year’s theme, ‘Holly Jolly Game Night’ sparking creative and nostalgic float designs. From classic board games to oversized dice and playing cards, parade entries showcased both holiday cheer and hometown imagination.

Following the final float, the crowd made its way to the official tree lighting ceremony, a moment that always signals the true beginning of the holiday season in Hope. As the towering tree flickered to life with thousands of lights, spectators burst into applause, soaking in the magic of the moment.

But the night didn’t end there. The community then headed to a bustling gathering for Cookies with Santa, (sponsored by Junior Auxiliary) at Tailgaters where children lined up eagerly for their turn to meet the man in red. Parents stood nearby with phones and cameras in hand, smiling proudly as their little ones whispered their Christmas wishes into Santa’s ear. Laughter, crumbs from sugar cookies, and wide-eyed wonder filled the room.

“We love bringing this tradition to life each year,” said Christy Burns, Executive Director of the Hope-Hempstead County Chamber of Commerce. “The ‘Holly Jolly Game Night’ theme brought out so much creativity. Our businesses, schools, and organizations put their hearts into these floats, and the community’s excitement tonight made it all shine.”

The evening offered everything that makes the holidays in Hope special tradition, togetherness, and a shared sense of joy. As families made their way home, the glow of the parade lights and the town’s shining Christmas tree signaled the start of a season filled with warmth and community spirit.
