Hope's Anna Powell named to Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute's Board of Directors
The announcement went out Wednesday of this week that Anna Powell, who is the Hempstead County Economic Development Corporations President was one of five appointed to the University of Arkansas for Medical Science’s Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute’s Board of Advisors.

The members are appointed to three three-year terms which will last until May of 2034 and will help comprise the 32-member board chaired by Hatim Smouni.

Powell released a statement Friday about the appointment and the opportunity it represents.

“I am deeply honored to serve on the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute Board of Advisers on behalf of Southwest Arkansas. This role gives our region a seat at the table as we address cancer disparities through early detection, prevention, and education. By examining local data from Hempstead County and across Southwest Arkansas, I hope to help shape programs that improve survival rates and expand access to lifesaving care. I am committed to supporting the Institute’s vision of securing National Cancer Institute designation and ensuring that rural Arkansans benefit from cutting-edge cancer research, treatment, and outreach.

“I have lost my father and my mother in law to cancer in the past four years and I am privileged to have the opportunity to improve these outcomes for other families.”

The Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute was founded in 1984 in Little Rock, Arkansas both to perform research on potential new cancer treatments as well as treat patients.
