Hornets Sting Pirates 63-46 in Season Opener
Emerson- It was the season opener for Blevins Hornet hoops on Tuesday night, as they hit the road to Emerson for a non-conference matchup against the Pirates. There is a lot of buzz around this Blevins squad this year and they showed a lot of people why on Tuesday night with a very impressive 63-46 win. "It feels good to start the season 1-0, big road win against a well coached and really tough opponent, our guys showed a lot of effort tonight," Coach Ethan Dixon said as he spoke on the win. 

The Hornets came out of the gates firing on all cylinders as they held a 20-10 lead after the opening quarter. Blevins controlled the pace of the game early and extended their lead to 15 points at halftime, as they took a 36-21 lead into the break. The Hornets were not done there, as they continued to grow their lead to 54-34 at the end of the 3rd quarter, and cruised to a 63-46 win over the Pirates. "Our depth played a big role in our win tonight, we played 10-12 players and they all played well, still some things to clean up but big win tonight," Dixon said as he spoke on the depth of his team Tuesday night. 

De Page led the Hornets in scoring with 18 points. Page also added 9 rebounds, 3 blocks, and 2 assists. Xavier Bazzelle poured in 15 points, added 7 boards, 3 assists, and 2 steals. After the game Xavier spoke on the win, "Fells good to win the first one, thankful to do it with my brothers, teamwork and playing together played a big role tonight." Rilee Faulkner drained 3 three-pointers for the Hornets and added 6 rebounds and 1 assists. Charles Hatchett had 5 points, grabbed 6 boards, and added 1 assist and 1 block. Javier Gomez did a great job distributing the ball, as he had a team-high 8 assists, added 6 points, 4 rebounds, and had 4 steals on the defensive side of the ball. 

Blevins (1-0) is back in action next Tuesday as they head into Bradley for a clash with the Bears.
