HPS Student To Have Artwork Featured at Hendrix College
HOPE, AR - January 28, 2025 - William Jefferson Clinton Primary student Brigit Arroyo will have her artwork featured in the Windgate Museum of Art at Hendrix College beginning February 1, 2025. Arroyo’s piece entitled “Sun and Moon” was submitted as an entry for the Windgate Museum of Art’s contest for K-12 students. The display this year is called "Observing Nature: An Exhibition of Nature Artworks by Arkansas K-12 Students Inspired by Mississippi Artist, Walter Anderson." The contest accepted submissions from students across the state in the Fall and recently announced featured artists. Over 600 entries were received by the museum and roughly 100 were selected, Arroyo’s being among those. Clinton Primary teacher Anna Waller heard about the contest and started a free after-school program to help students interested in submitting their artwork. Waller says, “Back in September I asked (Clinton Primary School Principal) Ms. Stewart if I could stay after school on Mondays and Tuesdays (not a club, just free help) for kiddos who wanted to show up and work on a submission for the Windgate Museum of Art at Hendrix College.” With Ms. Stewart’s approval, the program was launched and students began work on their submissions. The students learned about Walter Anderson and the different styles of art he produced. “I knew this was a pretty prestigious event and tricky to have a student get recognized.  However, I sent in around 10 completed submissions right before Christmas break and waited,” Waller said. She then received word that 4th grader Brigit Arroyo’s work was as one of the students whose art will be featured at the museum and hung in the window gallery beginning Feb. 1, 2025.  There is an opening reception from 12pm-2pm at the Windgate Museum of Art on the Hendrix College campus.
