ARKADELPHIA, Ark.âOuachita Baptist Universityâs Division of Music will host Emily Johnson in her senior recital on Friday, Feb. 21, at 11 a.m. in McBeth Recital Hall. The recital is free and open to the public.
Johnson, a senior musical theatre major from Benton, Ark., is a member of Alpha Psi Omega national theatre honor society and Ouachitaâs Womenâs Chorus. Johnson is a student of Dr. Margaret Garrett, associate professor of music, and Stephanie Faatz Murry, assistant professor of theatre arts.
âIâm performing several pieces that Iâve been working on for a few months now, along with one that I came into the program with, âAll That Mattersâ from Finding Neverland, so it has a special place in my heart,â Johnson said.
Johnson will begin her recital with Frank Loesserâs âA Bushel and a Peckâ from Guys and Dolls, followed by MoliĂ©reâs âAct 4, Scene 5â from Tartuffe. Next she will perform Adam Gwonâs âCalmâ from Ordinary Days and Paul Gordonâs âGraduation Dayâ from Daddy Long Legs. To conclude, Johnson will perform Lanford Wilsonâs âAct 1â from Talleyâs Folly and Gary Barlowâs âAll That Mattersâ from Finding Neverland.
âIâve grown so much as an artist and a performer over the past four years, and I canât wait to see what the post-graduation world has in store,â Johnson added.
Johnson will be assisted by Dylan Blackwood, a senior musical theatre major from Walnut Ridge, Ark., and Cedar Valdez, a senior musical theatre major from Garfield, Ark. She will be accompanied by Phyllis Walker, staff accompanist for Ouachitaâs Division of Music.
