Jr. Lady Saints Advance to State Semi-Finals with 32-5 Win Over CMA
Hot Springs Village- It's tournament time for the Junior Lady Saints, and they took care of business in the second-round of the tournament (They received a first-round bye due to having the top seed). Defense dominated the game, especially the second-half, as they did not allow a single basket, allowing just one free-throw. The Lady Saints carried a 13-4 lead into halftime, but outscored CMA 19-1 in the second half to win 32-5 and advance to the Final Four of the tourney.

Junior SWARK.Today reporter Heaven Garcia caught up with teammate Brailyn Almand after the game, "What do you think we did well offensively and defensively as a team tonight?" Almand replied, "We scored a lot of points off their turnovers, and we defended the paint well tonight."

The Lady Saints also rebounded well as a team tonight, as three players had double-digit rebounds.  Preslee Peck played a big role in defending the paint defensively as she hosted a block party Tuesday night, blocking 6 shots. Peck also led the Lady Saints in points with 18 and she also grabbed 10 rebounds to post another double-double.

Heaven Garcia played a great all-around game, as she scored 7 points, had 6 rebounds, and forced 6 turnovers defensively. Laila Santifer scored 4 points, grabbed 10 boards, and forced 5 turnovers. Brailyn Almand scored 2 points, had 10 rebounds, and had 5 steals. Lexi Crane added 5 rebounds and 4 steals.

Guard Abby Mendoza hit one free-throw and forced 6 turnovers, including 4 steals. Abby caught up with Junior Reporter Heaven Garcia after the game on Tuesday. Garcia asked, "Abby, how do you feel about winning the game and advancing to the semifinals?" Mendoza responded, "I feel very blessed and thankful for the win and excited for the next round."

Defensively, the Lady Saints had over 20 forced turnovers and blocked shots, a key part of the team's success on Tuesday, as allowing just 5 points to the opposing team is beyond impressive.

The Lady Saints will face Legacy Academy on Thursday. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 at Southwest Christian Academy.
