Junior Auxiliary of Hope hosts Community Coffee at Hempstead Hall
The Hope Junior Auxiliary (JA) welcomed guests to Hempstead Hall this morning as they hosted this week's Chamber Community Coffee. The ladies supplied participants with a pleasing display of savory snacks, sweet treats, and iced coffee while also sharing success stories of the events and scholarships they were able to provide area children over the last year.

JA President Carmen Galvan said the organization enjoyed the fellowship of community events. "We are hosting our community coffee today to invite new members to join us. Our purpose is serve the community and provide children with opportunities that they might not have had without JA. Next week, we will be at Sparks Fly in July passing out information on ways to stay hydrated for attendees along with popsicles and tattoos. We will also be at the Watermelon Festival picking up trash," Galvan said.

When asked what projects JA provides to the community, Galvan mentioned just a few. "A few of our biggest service projects are: Say Yes to the Dress: We were able to help seven girls go to prom this year. Another is Operation Christmas Cheer: We were able to help eight families have Christmas. In March we have Sweet Reads: We give every first grade student a book to read."

She went on to talk about hot to become a member of JA, "We are always looking for women who are interested in helping the children of the community, and we encourage anyone who is interested in joining to contact a current JA member."

Executive Director of the Hope Hempstead County Chamber of Commerce, Christy Burns, who is also a long time member of JA said, "I just love being a part of a sisterhood that is truly there for our community. It takes a village, and that's what we strive to provide for the children and people in our city."

The JA Facebook page lists their motto “Care today-Character tomorrow” and emphasizes their mission "to enhance the lives of children and youth in our community today, because healthy, safe children become productive, caring adults of tomorrow." The ladies further expounded on these core values today, informing guests of upcoming activities and opportunities for local children, while also carrying out their roles as hosts, ensuring all participants had food and conversation throughout the event.
