The Nevada County Extension Office hosted a “Get Real” Program at Prescott High School for juniors and seniors.
Over the course of three days, students were given information about good money management and the difference it makes in their lives. Students drew cards to receive their scenario with their family size and a job with a set income. They were required to find their net income from their gross income, then visit 12 different stations manned by volunteers from the community. The 12 different stations required the students to make decisions based on their family’s needs and what they could afford. Once they decided, they had to write a check and balance their register. Students were able to see how their choices affect their finances.
Community leaders stepped up to support this program for our Nevada County youth.
