Lady Bears Compete in Ashdown Tourney this Past Weekend

Ashdown-  The Lady Bears started off their first game of the weekend Friday night with a 12-4 victory over DeQueen. Ava McBrayer drove in 4 runs on 2 doubles to help lead the Lady Bears Friday night, while Cally Sullivan banged out 4 hits. Erin McMaster pitched very well recording 7 strikeouts and only allowing 6 hits, McMaster also drove in 2 runs at the plate. Emily Link had a multi-hit game and Camryn Dixon reached base in all 4 of her at-bats with 3 walks and a triple. The win sets up a game with Genoa Central.

Saturday

            Spring Hill 1                Genoa Central 9

The Lady Bears played a total of 4 games Saturday, going 2-2 in those games. After winning Friday night against DeQueen, the Lady Bears faced off against Genoa Central. It was a hard-fought game, with the Lady Bears trailing 2-1 headed into the 6th inning. Everything went Genoa’s way in the bottom of the sixth as they put up 6 runs. Spring Hill fell to Genoa 9-1, as Genoa would then go on to win the entire tournament. Erin McMaster drove in the lone run for the Lady Bears and Ava McBrayer had 2 a double and a single. Camryn Dickson and Cami Porter both recorded doubles. 

            Spring Hill 9                Foreman 3

The bats came alive in the second game of the day for the Lady Bears, in the 3rd inning to be exact as the Lady Bears pushed across 8 runs in the bottom of the 3rd. The Lady Bears banged out 10 hits as a team, Cally Sullivan, Ava McBrayer, and Erin McMaster each had 2 hits. Emily Link added a double and 2 RBIs. McMaster pitched a great game as she did not allow a hit in 5 innings and recorded 5 strikeouts in 5 innings of work. Emma Rhodes came in to pitch the sixth and seventh innings to seal the victory for the Lady Bears. 

            Spring Hill 8                Bradley 6

Erin McMaster went 3-3 with a sacrifice fly and 4 RBIs to help lead the Bears to their second win of the day. She pitched the first 2 innings of the game as well allowing just 1 run. Emma Rhodes came in and earned the win for the Lady Bears. Cally Sullivan recorded 2 singles and a walk, she also scored all 3 times she was on base. Ava McBrayer, Camryn Dickson, Emily Link, and Baili Butler each recorded hits as well. 

            Spring Hill 6                DeKalb 15

The fourth game of the day for the Lady Bears did not go the way they wanted it to go Saturday evening. Offensively the Lady Bears recorded 12 hits as team, 3 of which came from Cally Sullivan, Ava McBrayer and Baili Butler both recorded 2 hits each. DeKalb was just as scrappy offensively recording 13 hits. 

It was a very good weekend for Lady Bears softball, they played 5 games and won 3 of them. They faced good competition and the Spring Hill faithful have a lot to look forward to this season. The Lady Bears are back in action Monday as they travel to Gurdon.
