The second half would go back and forth. With the game tied with under a minute remaining, Kenzie Thompson grabbed an offensive rebound and was fouled on a made basket to give give Spring Hill a lead late in the fourth quarter. The shifty guard from Glen Rose would find her way in the paint and converted a lay-up to send the game to OT.
The Lady Bears fought valiantly in OT, but fell just short, as they dropped the game 42-39. Both defenses were playing well on Thursday night, as buckets were difficult to come by. Livi Tyree led the way with 12 points, including a big 3-pointer as the shot clock expired late in the fourth quarter. Layla Cantwell scored 10 points, as she was very effective driving the basketball throughout the game, and Ava McBrayer added 9 points. Kenzie Thompson scored 6 points, and Anna Flowers and Darby Coffee each scored 1 point. McBrayer had a team-high 6 rebounds and Coffee added 5 boards. Cantwell led the way with 2 assists. Big shoutout to the student-section on Thursday, as they do a great job of displaying a true home-court advantage.
The Lady Bears are back in action on Friday as they head to Emerson for a non-conference game against a good Lady Pirates squad.
The Jr. Girls game was a very entertaining one, as the Lady Bears stormed back in the final quarter to take the lead late and hold on to top the Jr. Lady Beavers 30-25. Knightley Porter took control of the game late in the fourth quarter, as she scored 14 of her game-high 23 points in the final quarter. Madi VIckers added 3 points, LK Tuttle had 2 points, and Lola Coffee and Ella Flowers each hit a free throw. Great defense by the Jr. Lady Bears throughout the game, especially in the final quarter to help secure the comeback win.
