Below is a game by game breakdown for the Lady Dragons.
On Friday night, the Lady Dragons faced off against the Lady Billies of Monticello and it was a good one. Monticello took an early 2-0 advantage, but Genoa Central would fight back to make the score 2-1. The Lady Dragons put themselves in good situations to scrape across the tying run in the final two innings, but the Lady Billies made the plays when needed to secure the 2-1 win. Pitcher Emily McGuire was excellent, as she located her pitches very well on Friday night. An ESPN Top-10 defensive play was made by Lady Dragons Centerfielder Kelsie Fowler, as she brought back a Lady Billie HR, showing off her range and athletic ability to rob the HR. Brenley Ward had the lone hit for Genoa and RBI.
In game 2, the Lady Dragons played a familiar opponent in Arkansas High on Saturday morning. Genoa entered the day 2-0 against Arkansas High, but fell short on Saturday as they dropped the game 5-2. The Lady Backs put up a crooked number in the first inning and Genoa fought hard to try and make up for that, but could not make up the ground in time. Allie Pierce and Anna McCrary both had 2-hit games for Genoa, while Rylee Fike and Kelsie Fowler each had an RBI.
The Lady Dragons would win their final game of the tournament, as they took the contest against Concord 4-1 behind a great pitching performance and defense. Emily McGuire went 4 innings, allowing just 2 hits and 1 ER, striking out 1 batter. Brenley Ward had a 2-hit game for Genoa Central and Ali Pierce smacked an RBI double. Rylee Fike and Kenzie Owen each had a hit and an RBI. Emily McGuire added a single and Anna McCrary reached base safely in both ABs with a pair of walks. Freshman Macey Williams got a single and drew a walk in her varsity debut on Saturday.
Anna McCrary was the recipient of the Monty Sullivan Scholarship.
You can find the Lady Dragons back in action on Monday March 31st as they host Fouke in a conference showdown.
