Lady Jays Pull Away Late from Lady Saints Thursday Night
Nevada- GMCS Lady Saints traveled to Nevada on Thursday night for a 2-game slate with the Lady Jays. These two teams were meeting for the second time this season, as they met at Garrett in November. In the varsity game, the Lady Saints held a 1-point lead after the first quarter, but Nevada turned some good ball pressure into a few easy layups at the other end to grab a 10-point advantage at the half. In the second half, it was all Lady Jays, as they outscored GMCS by 13 points behind some good defense and a lot of 3's from Karleigh Carlton to earn the 53-30 win.

KB hit six 3-pointers as she torched the nets for a career-high 22 points. Jordin Haley did a good job of controlling the tempo throughout the night and scored 14 points and freshman Gabby Evans scored 10 points, including playing excellent defense, turning some great on-ball defense into some offense. Zyirannah Vines had 5 points and Zyirhunn Vines added 2.

For the Lady Saints, Kat Morris posted another double-double, as she scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Gracy Martin scored 5 points and Baylee Pogue scored 4 points and grabbed 10 boards. Heaven Garcia played another really solid game, as she had 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals, as well as forcing 5+ jumpballs, as she was all over the floor (and this after playing all 24 minutes of the Jr. Girls game). Ella Eskridge hit a big 3-pointer for GMCS. Silbi Jones and Raylee Adkison each scored 2 points and grabbed 2 rebounds for GMCS. Brailyn Almand and Kylie Bullock each played well, grabbing 3 rebounds each.

In the Jr. Girls game, it came down to the wire, as Nevada would pull out a 20-17 win. Brailyn Almand of the Lady Saints almost nailed a game-tying half-court prayer to send the game into OT. Ma'kaylee Howell scored 10 points for Nevada and Devan Griffith scored 7 points. Clair Fore scored 2 points and Jaliyah Wingfield scored 1. For GMCS, Abby Mendoza scored 5 points, Heaven Garcia scored 3 points and had 3 rebounds, while Gracie Bullock added a 3-pointer. Preslee Peck was in foul trouble most of the game and finished the night with 2 points and 5 rebounds. Brailyn Almand and Raylee Adkison each scored 2 points.
