FAYETTEVILLE -- It appears for the second time this month another school has hired an assistant away from Ryan Silverfield's staff.
According to a report by 247Sports' Jeff Ermann, Maryland is hiring Clint Trickett as its offensive coordinator. Trickett was hired in mid-December by Silverfield to coach quarterbacks. Trickett was the offensive coordinator at Jacksonville State in 2025.
On Tuesday, Tim Cramsey, Arkansas' offensive coordinator, praised the work Trickett has done with the Razorbacks.
"My history with him, he's done a great job," Cramsey said. "He's played the position, and to me, that's always the biggest thing when you talk to coaches. Have they played? Have they stood there in that pocket? Have they felt what those kids have felt. It's no different than Marcus Johnson playing offensive line. He can coach those guys better than, I don't care how long I study offensive line play, I will never be able to coach as well as Marcus Johnson, because he's done it. He's been there. He's played that position, you know? So when you look for coaches across the board, look for guys who played that position, who can communicate with kids and can maximize their skillset and get the best out of them, and that there's a lot of guys on staff who can do that for us."
In college, Trickett played for Florida State and West Virginia. He has also spent time coaching at Marshall, Georgia Southern, Florida Atlantic and East Mississippi State Community College.
Earlier this month, defensive line coach Marion Hobby left for the Indianapolis Colts of the NFL. Silverfield was asked Tuesday if he will hire a replacement for Hobby?
"Listen, I wish Coach Hobby the absolute best," Silverfield said. "But if you look at the way we designed this thing, and I did this purposefully, we hired two offensive line coaches, we hired two defensive line coaches. Kynjee’ Cotton’s a defensive line coach that I’ve got great faith in. He’s a guy I actually targeted as soon as I got this job. Pulled him from the NFL, a guy with great experience. So you look at it, we still have a defensive line coach and I have great faith in Coach Cotton and what he’s been able to do. And really kind of now just evaluate what makes the most sense for our program. It’s kind of unique. I’ve got a two-month window into seeing, ‘Okay, what are some things that we may need more help?’ Or do we feel really comfortable with that position. Maybe is it the jack position, is it other areas of need that we may need, or we may say, ‘Hey, we’re very comfortable with where we’re at.’
"For me, I want people that are dying to be here in Arkansas, that love what we're about. They're going to be bought into the way we do things, and if we stay status quo, so be it. I've been pleased with what Coach Cotton's been able to do in that room, and feel very comfortable moving forward, and we'll see what that looks like."
