LAW ENFORCEMENT TORCH RUN SUPPORTING SPECIAL OLYMPICS ROLLS THROUGH DOWNTOWN HOPE ON WAY TO PRESCOTT ON MAY 10 / LOCAL BUSINESSES ENCOURAGED TO SHOW SUPPORT

HOPE– The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics will come through Hope on Tuesday, May 10 heading towards Prescott, then on to the Opening Ceremony of the State Special Olympics at Harding University’s First Security Stadium in Searcy.

The torch will be handed off to Hope members of local law enforcement by members of the local Melonvine Striders running group at the Guernsey intersection on Highway 67 at 8:30 a.m. 

Once in Hope, the caravan and runners will turn left on Elm Street in front of such businesses as BancorpSouth and LaGrone Williams Hardware, proceed to division and turn right at the front of the ROC Enterprises building, make the dash to Main Street before turning right in front of Tailgaters Burger Co.

The group will proceed up Main Street in front of the Hope/Hempstead Chamber of Commerce building and businesses Rae Tay’s Bridal Shop and Four States Furniture.

The runners will exit downtown through the light at Hwy 67 onward to the parking lot of the Rainbow of Challenges administration building located at 500 South Main Street in Hope during mid-morning.

After a short presentation and water break, the runners will exit back to Hwy 67, where the torch will continue its trek to Searcy by way of another stop in Prescott.

Businesses and community members along the route are encouraged to come outside and show their support for the runners as they pass.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Arkansas got its beginnings in 1987. The original 30-mile run is now a four-day relay that covers more than 1,200 miles with more than 700 runners participating.
